The Revolution Called iPad

Apple ushered in its revolutionary iPad amidst a lot of hue and cry this year. With the techies of the world all agog to try out the new kid on the technical block, the universe started revolving around two distinct groups: the users and the non users. The ones with absolutely no hope of shelling out the price required hoped to save face by resorting to the age old line of ‘2 b or not 2 b’ iPad savvy.

The service industry was not left unaffected either. Consequently, the ATM screens started looking just a little drab, however functional they may be, and the outdated screen sporting then hit upon the idea of creating and implementing a new interface for the BBVA, a Spanish bank which is likely to pave the way for the future of self service across the banking industry.

The health industry was quite another matter though. While the medical professionals are old hands at using the tablet computer, the iPad is not something that has excited the doctors and nurses overtly. While most of us think that running the electronic health record on an iPad could be next only to God, the very idea seems to leave the medics cold. Steve Jobs and his fancy features do not have the capability of beginning to fulfill even half of what the docs desire. Apple and iPad certainly seem to be something that will help to keep the doctor away now.

However, there is something that the iPad is not short of. The humor quotient is at an all time high with hilarious spoofs and YouTube videos flooding the net. Steve Jobs apparently had a tough time designing the iPad on account of his memory going for a toss at the very last minute. Consequently, he had to stay up all night the previous day juggling a total of 9 iPhones on a tray while his busy hands continued to tuck in a stray piece of tape here and glue down the devices tightly there. The task was completed at last with Jobs doublespacing his keynote presentation while an increase in the font size helped it to appear longer.

The result? An iPad that is quite similar to a piece of stone with both having wide screens and multi tasking facilities while being portable. The kids and the cats too have no complaints as they get to enjoy hours and hours of fun experimenting with the new interface.
