Crime does not pay! This is something that most of us, the good citizens, have been brought up on with every teacher laying it on thick as did our parents and Sunday school preachers all concerned with making us good, law abiding citizens in the long run. However, a look at the crime statistics from all across the nation and the world at large makes us doubt the veracity of this statement. Urban crime is definitely on the rise and the ones to have a go at it no longer belong to the hardened criminal class at all. On the contrary, most of them are simple people, teenagers even who get a kick out of conducting an action considered to be illegal by the law of the land.

The actions by the so called amateur criminals today often end up as amusing anecdotes as the person trying their hand at such an action for the very first time becomes muddled and give themselves away, that too, in a hilarious manner. Let us take a look at some of the urban incidences of crime that had added to our merriment and is continues to be told and retold in private gatherings.

An old hand at crime, a bank robber by profession tried to test himself once again in 2003, 20 years after he had been arrested for bank robbery. A bank in Spotsylvania County, Virginia was the venue of his crime where he proceeded to demand and obtain cash amounting to thousands of dollars from the two scared bank cashiers. He fled soon after trying to stuff the cash into his pockets which fell off leaving a trail of hard currency notes as he tried to get inside his getaway car.

The bumbling burglar however realized that he had locked his keys inside the vehicle and promptly took to his heels. Two passerby’s gained on him and managed to catch him when he shot himself in the leg while trying to bring out his gun.

Another story comes to mind where a burglar was beaten squarely by the woman of the house when he was found loitering in her back yard. The incident took place in Norfolk, England and the burglar tried to escape by scaling the fence. He got embroiled in the fence instead and had to remain stuck while the owner of the house thrashed him black and blue with the aid of a bamboo cane.
